- ➤ Lawmakers in Salem are meeting in a special session to consider a bill that would double the transit payroll tax from 0.1% to 0.2% starting Jan. 1, 2026—while a sunset provision would roll the tax back to 0.1% on Jan. 1, 2028 unless the legislature acts otherwise. This change aims to help fund transit agencies and prevent service cuts and layoffs. KGW
- ➤ The Senate has delayed its vote on a 10-year, $4.3 billion transportation tax package until Sept. 17 because Sen. Chris Gorsek is still recovering from back surgery—this delay leaves hundreds of Oregon Department of Transportation workers facing extended uncertainty over potential layoffs. West Linn Tidings
