- ➤ Retired Wilsonville High science teacher Jay Schauer released his new children’s book The Birds That Wish They Were Fish, which features artwork by 12 former WHS students and animal rhymes inspired by his early love for marine life — the book is now available at local stores including Backyard Birds. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than a dozen Oregon mayors including Lake Oswego’s have signed a letter rejecting federal plans to deploy the National Guard for protests in Portland—vowing to block local support for such enforcement actions. They will use legal and legislative measures to protect civil rights and ensure that any federal agents follow strict rules. West Linn Tidings
- ➤ States are struggling to find money to fix roads, bridges, and bus services as rising costs and lower gas taxes create funding gaps. In Oregon, nearly 500 transportation workers may lose their jobs on Oct. 15 if lawmakers do not pass a $4.3 billion funding package—while Pennsylvania shifted $394 million to keep transit running.
