GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Sept. 30 meeting, County Administrator Gary Schmidt said Clackamas County will likely face a shortfall of $2—3 million as costs for fixing roads on Redland Road and Highway 213 and extra funds for the victim help program have risen beyond estimates. West Linn Tidings
- ➤ West Linn Rep. Jules Walters cast her vote for House Bill 3991 on Sept. 29 to approve a transportation funding package that will raise nearly $4.3 billion over the next decade for ODOT and help retain 500 jobs. The bill will also increase the gas tax and vehicle fees and give the governor the power to fire the ODOT director — a change aimed at ensuring fiscal responsibility for large projects like the Abernethy Bridge. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Blazers signed three players to training camp deals—MarJon Beauchamp, Liam Robbins and Javonte Cooke—as they prepare for the 2025–26 season. Training camp started Tuesday and the team will play its first preseason game on Oct. 8 followed by a season opener on Oct. 22 against the Timberwolves. KGW
- ➤ The Portland Trail Blazers will open their season in three weeks at the Moda Center but star Damian Lillard will sit out to focus on rehab from an achilles tear. The team plans to improve its defense with the addition of veteran Jrue Holiday — head coach Chauncey Billups said the team is building a defense-first identity — as they look to rebound after missing the playoffs.
