COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lake Oswego, West Linn and Wilsonville will host Halloween events this week—Lake Oswego's Monster Mash will run on Oct. 31 from 3 to 6 p.m. and the Great Pumpkin Toss will take place on Nov. 2. Additional events include an urban forest summit on Nov. 1 at the United Methodist Church and school plays, with Wilsonville High School's Mary Poppins and Lakeridge High School's Anastasia running from Nov. 6 to 15.  West Linn Tidings

CULTURE NEWS

  • West Linn author Dede Montgomery released her sixth novel, 'A Map of Her Own,' which intertwines past and present as it follows two women facing personal loss and workplace struggles. She will discuss the book—at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Annie Blooms Books.  West Linn Tidings

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An atmospheric river is expected to bring heavy rain to the region and may disrupt Halloween trick-or-treating, as KGW Chief Meteorologist Matt Zaffino explained how the weather system is moving in from the southwest—residents should prepare for damp conditions in the coming days.  KGW

HEALTH NEWS

  • An Oregon resident tested positive for Shiga toxin-producing E. coli after eating unpasteurized aged cheese from a Washington creamery, and three people became ill between Sept 5 and Sept 16 with one hospitalized and at least one a child under 5. Health officials advised consumers to avoid Twin Sisters Creamery’s Whatcom Blue, Farmhouse, Peppercorn, and Mustard Seed cheeses made on or after May 27 — noting that some products may be repackaged without the original label.  KGW

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Linn volleyball swept Tualatin on Oct. 23 at West Linn High School—winning the Three Rivers League finale—and coach Kathy Walker said the team is peaking as they prepare for the state playoffs on Oct. 29.  West Linn Tidings
  • Lake Oswego senior LaMarcus Bell plays running back on his high school football team and works as a referee at youth games—balancing his athletic skills with community service.  KPTV
  • The Portland Trail Blazers prepared for their Friday night game against the Golden State Warriors without head coach Chauncey Billups, who was arrested on Thursday as part of a federal illegal gambling investigation + interim coach Tiago Splitter led the team at the Moda Center as they looked for their first win after a loss to the Timberwolves.  KPTV
  • After their head coach was arrested, the Blazers played Friday with Tiago Splitter as interim head coach—beating the Warriors for their first win of the season. The team now faces shockwaves from the incident as they prepare for upcoming games.  KGW
