GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A report from Portland State University showed that homelessness in Multnomah County increased 67% since 2023, with a January 22 count finding 12,034 homeless people in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties — rising evictions, more outreach and fewer affordable homes were cited as reasons. The count is used to meet federal funding requirements for housing and homelessness services. KPTV
- ➤ The Metro Council voted to set aside $500,000 in contingency funds — a move to preserve food access as federal SNAP funding remains delayed — while other local jurisdictions are taking similar steps to support community needs. KGW
- ➤ SNAP recipients in Lake Oswego are nearing day 4 without their benefits amid ongoing federal uncertainty — the Sunshine Division said it served 100 people by mid Tuesday morning. KGW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Portland Timbers are being inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame to honor their magical season (2015) and mark a decade since they won the MLS Cup (2015). The honor celebrates the team’s lasting impact on local sports. KGW
- ➤ Local high school playoffs saw Lake Oswego Girls Soccer win 2-0 over South Salem on Nov. 1 at Lake Oswego High School, + the Boys Soccer team ended its season with a 3-1 loss to Lincoln. Lakeridge, West Linn and Lake Oswego volleyball teams finished their seasons with playoff losses + to Nelson, Grant and Jesuit respectively. West Linn Tidings
