Welcome aboard Grand Adventure for an unforgettable evening on the water! It’s a brisk December evening, and we’re bundled in scarves, gloves, and Santa hats, standing on the deck of our festively lit boat. The Willamette River sparkles under our hull, reflections of red, green, and gold flickering in the gentle current. Ahead, dozens of boats—some wrapped in thousands of lights, others shaped like Christmas trees, reindeer, or snowmen—fall into formation.

This is the Portland Christmas Ships Parade , and tonight, we’re not watching from shore. We’re witnessing it from the water !

While most parade boats are privately owned, there are river cruises that follow nearby— and yes, they’re incredible.

Whether you’re onboard with us or catching the show from the shore, here’s how to make the most of it:

• Dress in layers — even with cocoa, the river air gets chilly.

• Arrive early — for good parking and the full lineup of decorated ships.

• Join us on the water — we’ve reserved space on select nights with limited spots, and yes — snacks & drinks are included . If wine/beer is more your steam, you are welcome to bring some along.
